I’m a firm believer in the importance of community within the local music scene and the local creative scene as a whole. In order for any artist to thrive as an individual, I believe there are so many other things that need to happen, too:

Connections with the people and places around them, support from fellow artists, fans, and venues, mentorship, education, opportunities for feedback and growth, and so much more.

These are things that I, myself, need, and things I hope to provide to others in whatever way I can. Here are some of the things I’m doing to create that sense of community in Lansing and beyond. If that’s something you’re looking for, I hope to see you at one or both of these soon!

Lansing-Area Songwriter’s Group (LASG)

Are you a local songwriter looking for support from other local songwriters? Would you like to focus on the craft of songwriting, and share ideas and feedback in a safe and constructive atmosphere? Do you often feel stuck with songwriter’s block, and/or stuck in the same old patterns, and find yourself looking for new approaches to your writing?

The Lansing-Area Songwriter's Group (LASG) is a friendly, fun, and relaxed atmosphere for local singer/songwriters to share songs, ideas-in-progress, hone their craft, and connect with other area artists in a supportive community environment.

The group meets the third Saturday of every month and leans toward the interests of intermediate to experienced songwriters, but artists of any level (including beginners) are welcome.

I also host the weekly Monday night open mic at Blue Owl Coffee.

Blue Owl, located in Lansing's up-and-coming REO Town district (5 minutes south of downtown), has quickly become one of Lansing's hottest new gathering places for coffee, live music, and community. Sign-up for performers is at 7:00 PM and music starts at 7:30 and goes until 9:30.

3 songs or 15 minute max, whichever happens first, all styles/genres, covers and originals welcome, family-friendly.

***Please note that this open mic is specifically for sharing music.***

Hope to see (and hear) you at an open mic soon, or come just to listen to some of the best music in Lansing!
